Facebook

IMPORTANT NOTE: On October 31, 2023, Facebook ceased the use of Meta Payments for donation and fundraising payouts and began partnering exclusively with PayPal Giving Fund for nonprofits in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Here are the key details of this transition:

  • Meta no longer covers donation payment processing fees for donations. Donations will now incur a payment processing fee from a third-party payment processing partner.

  • For donations made in US dollars (USD) to support nonprofits in the United States, the payment processing fee is 1.99% + $0.49 USD. Donors will have the option to increase their donations to cover fees.

  • Facebook/Meta no longer supports recurring donations. As of 5pm PT on October 31, 2023, Meta has closed all recurring campaigns and recurring donations have ended.

  • Distributions from PayPal Giving Fund to SGF for Facebook donations and fundraisers can now take up to 90 days (and possibly more) for us to receive.

  • All donations are irrevocable gifts to PPGF and can only be refunded in certain circumstances as outlined by PayPal Giving Fund’s Donation Refund Policyarrow-up-right or when required by law.

You may wish to fundraise for your project on Facebook or have supporters that would like to do this on your behalf. To make sure that funds raised for your project are properly identified, please follow these steps: 1.Social Good Fund is already registered as a charity on Facebook, so when setting up the fundraiser, select Social Good Fund as the charity the funds will go to. Do this by typing in “Social Good Fund” and selecting us when it pops up. Please make sure you have the correct Social Good Fund--here is the link to our Facebook pagearrow-up-right. 2. Make sure to include the name of your project in the "Fundraiser Title." This will allow us to identify the funds as belonging to your project. 3. Keep track of your donors for your own donor management and "thanking" purposes. Facebook issues a tax receipt to donors, but if you want to keep track for donor cultivation or to say thank you, you will need to do this. The reports we are able to access from Facebook show the Fundraiser Title, and allow us to ID the funds and post to the appropriate account within a few business days after we receive the disbursement.

Please be aware when using Facebook (or another 3rd party platform) that SGF is not in control of when the 3rd party sends us the funds. There may be delays outside our control. SGF is not able to advance funds to your project for any reason, including if there are delays on your funder or platform’s end. If you are doing a fundraiser and anticipate needing the proceeds by a certain date, we recommend using Fundrazr.
